Now that you’ve mastered roles and channels, let’s examine another aspect of controlling channel access: Access Requests.

When you privatize a channel, you have the option of allowing your community members to request access to enter said channel. Access requests are a way to grant entry to channels based on the completion of specific tasks.

Setting up access requests allows you to input custom rules that are displayed to community members when they select ‘Request to join channel‘.

Craft tasks for your community that are driven by a goal that you would like accomplished, and let your private channels serve as incentives for community members to finish these tasks. For example;

• This channel is for VIP members only. If you are a VIP member, please input your account number and our Moderators will get back to you.

When a request has been made, it will appear in your request management screen. Once you confirm that the member has completed the necessary tasks, you may assign them a role that gives them access to the channel.

Additionally, you may also control a separate set of permissions that decide what community roles can see and request access to the private channel, ensuring that you don’t have an influx of requests from members who don’t qualify for access.
